Breast Implants and mammograms

If you have breast implants, it remains vitally important to have your annual mammogram. However, do tell the mammographer before your mammogram about your implants, as further views may be needed to see as much of the breast tissue behind the implants as possible. Improved imaging is obtained with additional views, where the implant is pushed back against the chest wall and the breast is pulled forward over it and then compressed. Very rarely an implant can rupture during a mammogram.
